How to Begin the Week on a Positive Note?
A report says "Most of us find the start of the week so demoralising that we can't even bear to crack a smile until 11.16am."
11:16am? Whether you love your job or not, this first weekday struggle happens to most of us. Weekend feels absolutely too short. We can't just let go of being in a relaxed mode with our family, or friends. It's really normal to feel sad and lazy to go back to work routine.
But, would you rather keep this trend than start the week right and and set a good mood for the entire work week?
Let me share how I combat that feeling. Here's my another tips. Easier said than done, I know. It's really challenging, but hey, it's just a matter of mindset. Talk and listen to yourself. Try these, nothing to lose anyway:
- Enjoy the whole of weekend. Do not make it a habit to feel bad when Sunday (Saturday here in UAE) evening sets in, thinking it's gonna be work week again the next day. The more you think about it, the worse it becomes. Maximize the remaining hours of the weekend with your loved ones.
- Give yourself ample time in the morning. Set your alarm about 1 hour (and snooze) before you actually want to wake up. Give yourself an hour or more allowance before you leave. Start early. Have a hearty breakfast. Don't cram. Don't stress, you're not in the office yet.
- Listen to Music Instead of News. I know some of us would rather listen to news on the radio, waiting for traffic advisories. You would probably know that traffic is always jammed on mornings so why still care? Listen to feel good music instead - or upbeat ones if you prefer. It will help set the tone of your mind going to work.
- Invite positive energy. Eliminate the sighs that it's workweek again. While driving, or at least upon getting off your car, before you enter that building, look up and tell yourself, "it will be a good day, a productive week." Smile!
- Greet. Greet everyone a good morning. Ask them about their weekend.
- Bonding. Break the ice. Invite a colleague or 2 for a coffee. You will get back quickly to your 'office mood' after the sip.
- Plan your week. Making a realistic week plan. This is the best time to take control of the things you need to work on to, and not the other way around.
There are surely more ways to reverse the "first weekday blues". Those 5 had been so effective for me, though it took me ages to really get them working. I simply wouldn't want the first day to ruin the rest of the week and swallow me... At least Monday (Sunday here in UAE) happens only once a week.
Have a great week ahead everyone!

listening to news is very depressing on the most part. the only enlightening part of watching the news is the entertainment section. but since I'm not really into the local showbiz. I just don't watch news instead. I just get the news on the internet.
but, yeah, I agree that you have to make your week great to start a new week great. Sometimes there are things that will try to break that trend, but it all depends on you if you're going to be affected by it.
nice tips. Thanks for sharing.
Actually I don't watch or listen to the news, too depressing for me, which makes me out of the loop in terms of current events but I don't care my wholebeing and peace of mind is more important. I love listening to music even at work I always make sure that there's music in the background even at our production area at our factory. It cheers up the workers and they perform better work with a music on..
Numbers 2 and 5 are both effective. Thanks for sharing.
Is that your cat? Why does it look abused? Sorry ha, cat lover kasi ako e.
My brain starts to function at 10am everyday. Before that, its all mush. Haha
@Kay, yes that's our cat... few days old pa lang sya. no she is not abused. bagong gising lang yan... :-)
i always plan my week, if i don't have a plan i feel very unproductive, feeling ko wala ko nagagawa. so i need to write my "to do" list and put a check mark after i finish it. =)
just give me a coffee and i'm on the go!
Well. for people like me who's on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week then it's MONDAY everyday.
i watch news first thing in the morning, always have great weekends ,bonding time with kids but still to lazy to start the weekdays when I was still working so what i always used to do is call some of my co worers and have breakfast at work to start the day.
listening to music is best for me on a monday :)
Good suggestions on how to combat demoralizing feeling of starting the weekdays.
I already plan my whole month of January since last year. If you have a weekly rountine just keep following it and everything is gonna be alright. Once you break your routine it will be mess. To organized your week plan it ahead of time.
Listening to music instead of watching news - that's me! Plus I can never go a morning without a cup of coffee. It is what completes my morning.

As I was always saying and writing in my blog that positivity should start with me and so with us, each day. We owe it to ourselves to make good of this promise to help make a stress-free day.
Salamat for this post!
i am no longer a career-mom but a stay-at-home mom...i think it made me feel a lot better than working here in Pinas...the traffic just made me hard to smile every morning:)
The difficulty could be caused by weekend hangover and what you have here should help. If I made add, an early morning exercise should also help set your mood for the week ahead.
